Role Summary

The Library and Knowledge Services (LKS) team is a global function comprised of nine people. The team work closely with our Professional Support Lawyers (PSLs), fee earners and support departments to ensure that everyone in the firm has the knowledge, information and resources they need to complete their work to the highest possible standards.

The continued growth of Withers in the Asia-Pacific region has created an exciting opportunity for a new role within the team. Working with support from LKS colleagues in other offices, the successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and delivering library and knowledge management services across the Asia-Pacific region (approximately 190 lawyers across four offices).

An important priority for this role is to raise the profile of the Library and Knowledge Services team within the APAC region – building presence both in person and on the firm's intranet. Other priorities will be to take control of library budgets, ensuring we have the best mix of resources and that they are being used to their full potential, and acting as the lead contact and liaison within the region for the firm's global Knowledge Innovation Project.

The role is based in Singapore, reporting to the Global Head of Library and Knowledge Services in London. There will also be line management responsibility for the Singapore office librarian. The successful candidate will be confident working on their own but will have full support from colleagues across the global LKS team.

  • Line management responsibility for the Singapore office librarian

Managing resources

  • Responsibility for setting the library budgets for the APAC region and monitoring spend
  • Maintaining relationships with vendors for library subscriptions across the region, particularly in those offices that do not have a local LKS team member
  • Providing support and advice to the Singapore librarian in her negotiations with vendors

Knowledge management

  • Coordinate and support work by teams in each office and practice group division across the APAC region to identify, capture and share knowledge
  • Provide help and assistance to ensure that the firm maintains the necessary tools and templates for the accurate and efficient creation of documents in the APAC region
  • Help deliver training and create online hubs so that lawyers are aware of, and easily able to access, the library and knowledge resources
  • Help ensure that lawyers are committed to and participate in the sharing of knowledge both within and between teams

Research and training

  • Ensure that lawyers are easily able to access the tools and resources they need to provide high quality legal advise
  • Ensure the delivery of training to lawyers and support staff on use of the library and knowledge management resources
  • Provide research and input into reports for use in business development and marketing activities
  • Assist lawyers and Business Development staff with the monitoring of legal, sector and client current awareness

Required Skills and Experience

  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent)
  • Experience of working in an international law firm environment
  • Experience managing budgets and leading successful negotiations with suppliers
  • Great personal impact with an easy ability to build rapport with people of all levels of seniority
  • An understanding of the needs and sensitivities required to work within a global team
  • Self-sufficient; able to work independently locally but as part of a wider team delivering a consistent global service
  • Pro-active, customer-focused attitude to research and knowledge sharing
  • Excellent IT skills, ideally with experience of maintaining and curating intranet content
  • Experienced at using own initiative to find solutions to questions or problems and committed to seeing new projects through to completion
  • Able to work to deadlines, manage multiple projects and deliver under pressure
