With offices in the key financial centres of Europe, Asia, the United States and the Caribbean, we provide coverage and services that other law firms focussed on the individual cannot.  We have represented 70% of the Top 100 'Sunday Times Rich List', as well as a significant number of people listed in the US (Forbes) and Asian (Hurun) Rich Lists.

The Team/Department:

Pricing (part of wider Finance team)

The Role:

The main purpose of the role is to assist the Head of Pricing in evolving and delivering the firm's recently launched global pricing programme. The programme's core objective is to have a positive and direct impact on the firm's revenue and profitability whilst helping to ensure a positive experience for clients. It seeks to achieve this through focussing on five key pricing areas: governance, data, toolkit, charging practices and developing commercial acumen across the firm.

In this newly created and varied role you will be central to the development, rollout and operation of the firm's pricing and fee tracking tool (Big Hand's Evaluate). You will also contribute to a range of pricing and commercial initiatives, including:

  • the design and delivery of other pricing tools to add to the firm's pricing toolkit
  • the design and implementation of pricing processes across the firm
  • working with the relevant partners/teams on initiatives to improve the pricing performance of a particular segment of the firm (team, division, office, region)
  • working with the relevant partners/teams on initiatives to create pricing strategies and models for particular services and products, exploring the adoption of alternative fee arrangements where appropriate
  • the creation and delivery of pricing training in its various forms (online, classroom, videos, supporting materials)
  • working with the Finance Systems team and other colleagues to understand how best to utilise the firm's practice management system, matter inception workflow and other applications in support of the pricing programme. An example would be the design of new reports to support new pricing processes.

Other tasks will include:

  • providing ad-hoc pricing support to partners/associates in relation to individual client/matter opportunities
  • supporting Finance, BD and divisional management with ad-hoc queries relating to pricing
  • producing, analysing and presenting data to inform decision-making, both in relation to individual client/matter opportunities and other tactical or strategic initiatives
  • creating and delivering presentations to various internal audiences as required
  • identifying opportunities for enhancing current and future pricing/commercial performance
  • updating/maintaining content on the firm's pricing intranet site and other central repositories

Candidate profile:

We are looking for a candidate who is conscientious, enthusiastic, service-oriented, takes pride in their work and relishes the opportunity that comes with such a role on the front line of the business.

You will be an excellent communicator - both verbally and written - and able to work with lawyers and support staff at all levels and across the different jurisdictions in the Withers network. You will have an appreciation for working cross-culturally.

You will be equally comfortable working independently and as a team and will have a good sense of how to influence and challenge diplomatically and effectively.

You will be highly numerate and commercially adept and possess a keen interest in legal (or broader professional services) pricing, taking measures to build your subject matter expertise, be it through seeking out learning opportunities or generally keeping in touch with developing industry practices.

Other skills and experience:

  • Minimum three years' experience in a pricing/commercial role (or at least one with commercial elements) in a law firm (or else other professional services firm)
  • Excellent attention to detail together with a methodical and organised approach
  • A hands-on and pro-active approach to problem-solving
  • Highly IT literate
  • High level of proficiency and experience in Excel
  • Knowledge of Big Hand Evaluate and/or Thomson Reuters 3E a bonus, but not essential

This list of duties and responsibilities is not exhaustive.  It is intended to describe the general content and requirements and, as such, the role may include the undertaking of additional tasks as required.

The Essentials:

  • Based in the London office (mobile working policy)
  • Reporting into the Head of Pricing (who is based in London)
  • Full time, 9.30am – 5.30pm but flexibility is a must
  • 3 month probation period

  • Flexible benefit package including pension, private medical insurance, dental plan, season ticket loan, subsidised gym memberships, lifestyle discount scheme, the ability to buy and sell holidays, flu jabs, doctors consultation service, cycle to work scheme, on site café plus more
