Summary

We are building a practice in San Francisco to represent Silicon Valley founders and CEOs personally and scale this practice globally. This is an opportunity for you to play a key role and get in on the ground floor as we launch this exciting practice.  This is the ideal opportunity if you are someone who is curious about the law, passionate about customer service, and enjoy working with the top leaders in Silicon Valley.  If you are interested in the business side of law and marketing and you are comfortable with leveraging technology, this is the role for you!

 

You will be working closely with one of our Senior Partners, who is also the Global Head of the Founder Practice. In addition to being known as one of the top lawyers in Silicon Valley for representing founders, our Global Head of the Founder Practice has also been general counsel for three technology companies (including the first GC of LinkedIn).  He is passionate about tech and is looking to build a culture for the Founder Practice that more closely resembles an agile startup rather than a law firm.

In this role, you will be an integral member of the team, working side by side and acting as the Global Head's right hand person.  This position is much more than your typical Executive Assistant role.

 

Key responsibilities

Client service and gatekeeper

You will play a key role in the onboarding of new clients and often act as the first point of contact, speaking directly with clients before an attorney does.  We are also sometimes responsible for coordinating the right team of lawyers to meet a client’s needs. You will work with lawyers across our firm, and when necessary counsel from other firms in order to meet our clients’ needs.

 

Marketing

You will work with the firm’s Marketing Team and lawyers to market the Founder Practice through the Founders Counsel Podcast, events, conferences and social media.

 

Data Analysis

You will assist in analyzing data regarding our clients so that we can be more efficient and be pro-active rather than reactive in response to client needs.

 

Qualifications

Law firm experience is not required. In fact, the ideal candidate will have worked in a legal department of a fast-growing technology startup. If you have experience as an executive assistant to a paralegal, or attorney in a company or law firm, that would also be excellent experience. This could also be the ideal job for you if you are someone who is interested in going to law school at some point and you are looking for insight and experience in the legal profession. In addition, this position offers the opportunity for growth and development as we continue to grow our team.  

Experience and skills needed

  • You are passionate about customer service. You like helping people solve their problems. Sometimes our clients have emergencies and need us – the idea of this energizes you, regardless of when. 
  • You are personable and connect well with others.
  • You are proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Power Point), Adobe Acrobat and document management systems.
  • Experience with Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides and Excel. Very familiar with LinkedIn and social media.  Most lawyers struggle with Excel so you will need to be able to use it well.
  • Transmit invoices and liaise with clients and assigned partner to address invoice related queries
  • Maintain bill trackers throughout the billing process
  • Process New Business Intake (NBI) requests, including obtaining all required information to complete risk based assessments for all new matters
  • Submit conflict check requests to the Risk team and follow-up any requirements for further information
  • You have meticulous attention to detail and are very comfortable proofing and drafting documents.
  • You possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • You have experience with project management. You don’t need experience with Asana but you should be familiar with what it is and why it is important.
  • You are a trusted partner, maintaining client confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
  • Ability to work in a large global organization where process is important. That being said, you will also look for opportunities for creativity and to think outside of the box.  You will be comfortable troubleshooting and finding new ways of getting things done.
