The Role

We currently seek a junior or mid-level associate to join our Real Estate team in California. Ideal candidates will have 3 – 5 years' experience and practical, as well as technical, knowledge of California real estate law. Annual compensation commensurate with experience and ranging from $190,000 to $245,000. 

We advise and assist both domestic and international investors in a wide range of real estate transactions throughout and beyond California, working alongside our partners and colleagues in the United States, Europe, and Asia to provide seamless technical and practical real estate law advice. More often than not, clients are family offices and high net worth individuals rather than strictly institutional.  For that reason, the transactions and issues for which we are engaged are very diverse.  Clients are of diverse nationalities and cultural orientation. 

The Essentials 

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience practicing in a California law firm's Real Estate group
  • Admitted and in good standing with the California Bar 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Responsiveness
  • Effective team player – able to work effectively with colleagues in a vibrant, friendly environment 
  • Growth mindset and desire to learn (we may recommend some course work in the early stages of employment)
  • Strong academic credentials 

Key Skills & Experience 

  • Ability to handle key aspects of complex commercial and residential purchases and sales (e.g. title and survey review, the transaction process, communications with counsel, escrow and principals)
  • Experience with finance, commercial leasing (office, retail, industrial, ground leasing and agricultural), conveyancing, entitlements/subdivisions and structuring, and drafting to form and advise complex ownership vehicles
  • General knowledge of real estate taxation issues 
  • Relational ability to work directly with senior attorneys and clients as a substantive provider 
  • Exposure to complex real estate transactions, including some with sole responsibility
  • International and cross-border experience working in multiple time zones
  • Strong project management ability; ability to balance a large number of competing priorities
  • International mindset, entrepreneurial spirit, inspired by innovation and technology
