About The Role
The U.S. Senior Learning & Development Manager will have responsibility for the implementation and day to day management of the Learning & Development strategy for the U.S. offices (New Haven, Greenwich, New York, Boston, Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco) of an international law firm. This highly-visible role will include the co-ordination and delivery of the professional skills training syllabus and global development centres, career development and coaching, CLE compliance, and operational support.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities 
• Act as an advisor on all matters related to learning and development to all levels of employees throughout the U.S. offices.
• Manage the provision of the US professional skills training syllabus, including designing and delivering some training courses in areas of personal expertise.
• Serve as core member of facilitation team for global development centres and as the lead project manager for the Associate Development Centre.
• Source and advise on external training suppliers and coaches where required and collaborate with them to tailor programs to meet firm needs, time scales, and budget.
• Provide one to one career coaching support where required.
• Monitor all externally delivered training and coaching to ensure a quality product is delivered which meets the requirements of the global L&D strategy.
• Lead Continuing Legal Education (CLE) accreditation, tracking, recordkeeping, and compliance for firm-sponsored training programs and US-qualified attorneys.
• Maintain visibility throughout the firm to promote the value of learning & development and develop strong working relationships across all departments.
• Source or personally deliver appropriate training for support staff and paralegals as required.
• Maintain the annual L&D budget for the US offices; managing expenditures and reporting on budget variances on all relevant budget codes.
• Work closely with the International Head of Learning & Development and the U.K. and U.S. HR teams to ensure a coordinated approach to development.
• Work closely with the US H.R. team to ensure the successful onboarding and integration of all U.S. fee-earners
• In collaboration with the US Talent Acquisition team, develop and deliver professional development programming for summer associates and incoming first -year associates.
• Support the development and delivery of internal DEI trainings and source external facilitators where needed.
• Oversee the implementation in the US offices of any global training initiatives.
• Support the International Head of Learning & Development with any Partner development initiatives.
• Maintain own knowledge in the field of learning and development.
• Contribute to a collaborative, collegial department and office environment
• Supervise the US Engagement & Development Manager (only if a senior role) and US L&D Administrator
• Travel to other offices as required.
 

Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in a related field) and Juris Doctorate (preferred)
• Strong Learning & Development experience (preferably 1-2 years at a management level and in the legal industry)
• Training design and delivery experience
• Knowledge of viDesktop and continuing legal education requirements
• Coaching qualification (desirable)
• Myers Briggs Type Inventory qualification (desirable)
• Other learning/psychometric qualifications, including Hogan Assessments (desirable)
• Ability to establish credibility and influence all levels of individuals
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Excellent communication, organizational and presentational skills
• Ability to manage a number of projects at the same time
• Commercial approach with a robust attitude
• Proactive, confident, tenacious, resilient and flexible
• Strong service orientation
